Unchristian: New Book May Open a Big Can of Worms

A new book from Baker Books will most likely cause just a bit of a stir in Christendom. It's written by David Kinnaman, who is now President of leading Christian research firm The Barna Group, and it will either land like the punch in the face that was George Barna's Revolution, or it just might land with a thud like a wet bottle rocket, but I doubt it. It's titled, Unchristian: What a New Generation Thinks of Christianity and Why it Matters.

I personally remember not long ago when Barna's Revolution was yanked from my church's bookstore because of its controversial, "negative" content, and as a promoter of free speech in the Church, I would hope that would never happen to Unchristian, but it might. Because the book is packed with statistical facts that don't exactly make all Christians look like...well, Christians. And while Kinnaman's tone seems much softer than Barna's, and while Kinnaman seems much more hopeful and encouraging, the book is nonetheless convicting.

We've provided a full review of Unchristian in the book review area of our Resources section here on Faithvine, so read the review and, if the book sounds interesting to you, go buy it. Just don't say we didn't warn you: Kinnaman's book is sure to open up some issues that may cause us all to re-examine the way we live, and not everyone likes a troublemaker.

Ok, you've got me curious now. Could it be that this author calls 'em like he seems 'em? Might he be so bold as to point out to so-called Christians the fact that they are being UN Christian? I wonder. Guess I'm going to have to read it after all :)
